Rent the Sensa Romagna Gravel XP GRX 2x12 in Maastricht

A day on the bike you're considering buying. On the real Limburg paths where the equipment proves itself.

Shimano GRX 2x12 with hydraulic disc brakes

47 mm Vittoria tyres, carbon fork

RRP new € 1,899

Why this bike, and why here

The Sensa Romagna Gravel XP GRX 2x12 is not the top of the market, and that's exactly the intention. It costs € 1,899 new, considerably less than a Canyon Grail or a Cervélo Áspero, but gives you an aluminium frame with a carbon fork, a complete Shimano GRX groupset with double chainrings and 12 speeds at the rear, and hydraulic disc brakes. That puts you well above entry level, without having burned two thousand euros on a carbon frame and exotic components.

What that means in practice: for 95 percent of people who want to ride gravel, this is the right bike. And that's exactly why we chose it for rental. Not a motley collection of mismatched bikes, but one bike that works for almost everyone.

How this bike rides

The Sensa Romagna is a gravel bike for the real thing. Not for the paved "gravel paths" you see in some reviews, but for the stones, sharp gravel and worn cart tracks that the Heuvelland actually offers.

On tarmac it feels faster than you'd expect. The 47 mm tyres give a lot of comfort but thanks to the GRX groupset and the Vittoria tyres (which roll surprisingly well on tarmac) you still maintain speed. Not a road bike, but not a tractor either.

On unpaved surfaces it handles well. The geometry is slightly more stable than on a road bike, which helps when you're on loose gravel or sunken lanes for the first time. The carbon fork absorbs many of the short shocks you'd otherwise feel in your hands.

On genuinely technical paths (mud, roots, sharp descents) this is not the bike. For that you want a mountain bike. But for the Limburg mix of tarmac, gravel, church paths and soft unpaved: exactly what the bike is designed for. A good route to test it is the Three Countries Route.

Who is this bike suitable for

People considering buying a gravel bike

You're an enthusiastic road cyclist or MTB rider and want to see if gravel adds something. A day riding a bike you're seriously considering buying is a hundred times more valuable than ten YouTube reviews. We offset the rental cost against the purchase price if desired. Still unsure whether gravel is for you?

Road cyclists on holiday in Maastricht

Don't feel like dragging your own carbon racer over the stony Limburg paths? Rent this Sensa for a day and ride what normally only local cyclists know.

Tourists who really want to see the Heuvelland

A gravel bike is more comfortable than a road bike and faster than a mountain bike. For a full day riding around the Heuvelland or towards the Voer region, this is the right choice.

Not suitable for: technical MTB work in the Ardennes, keen road racing on tarmac, or renters who just want to explore the city of Maastricht (for that we have city and e-bikes).

How our rent-to-buy scheme works

A new gravel bike quickly costs two to four thousand euros. For that money you want to know if the bike fits. Not just in terms of sizing, but also in character. Does the riding feel right? Does it suit how you want to cycle? Does it work on the paths you like to ride?

At Courtens you can. Rent the Sensa Romagna for a full day, ride it on the routes that interest you, and come back in the evening with an honest verdict. If you then decide to buy it, we offset the one-day rental cost against the purchase price.

Conditions:

  • The purchase must take place within 30 days of the test day
  • Only valid on purchase of a Sensa Romagna (model of your choice) at Courtens
  • One test day per person, regardless of purchase amount

  • We fit your own pedals free of charge

Absolutely. The stony Limburg paths call for wider tyres than a road bike offers (the 47 mm on the Sensa is ideal), but you don't have to drag a mountain bike tractor around.

The Sensa Romagna XP GRX 2x12 is a specific model from Sensa's gravel range. Reviews of "Sensa Romagna" often cover this or a closely related variant. The main characteristics (aluminium frame, GRX groupset, wide tyres) are consistent throughout the range.

Yes. We offer day, weekend and weekly rates. For longer periods a discount usually applies. Check the rates on our gravel page.

700×47 mm Vittoria Terreno Dry, tubeless-ready. We run our rental bikes with clincher (easier roadside repair), but for those who want to test with tubeless that's possible on request.
