City centre Maastricht, straight into the Heuvelland

At Courtens Bike Sports you rent a gravel bike five minutes' walk from the Vrijthof. Our shop has been on Calvariestraat 16 since 1938, a family business now with three generations of cycling expertise. No pop-up rental counter on the edge of town, but bike mechanics who also rent.

From our shop you're on the first gravel paths and on Sint-Pietersberg within fifteen minutes. And within an hour and a half at the Three Countries Point, with Belgian and German paths within reach. Want to see something truly different for a day, or do you have a bike at home and want to try gravel? Maastricht is the ideal starting point!

Who is this for?

Tourists who want more than a city tour

Maastricht is beautiful, but the Heuvelland around it is where the real landscape is. A day's rental is a day seeing something truly different.

Local cyclists without their own gravel bike

You have a city bike or a hybrid at home, but want to see what gravel paths actually feel like. One day on a serious gravel bike says more than a hundred YouTube videos.

Road cyclists who want to try gravel

A test day on a well-set-up gravel bike on real Limburg gravel. Not a paved gravel path, but the stony tracks where the equipment is genuinely tested.

Why Courtens

Three generations of Courtens have built the shop on Calvariestraat. Since 1938 we have been selling, repairing and renting bikes with the same approach: quality, craftsmanship, and putting people on the right bike. We are BOVAG members and have built a loyal customer base in Maastricht of people who know that a bike is more than a pair of wheels.

Gravel is a natural extension for us. It fits who we are: bike mechanics who ride themselves, and know which paths in this region are worth taking.

Address and opening hours

From the Vrijthof it's a five-minute walk to the shop. Parking is available at Q-Park Mosae Forum or the car park under the Vrijthof. Maastricht train station is fifteen minutes' walk.

Frequently asked questions

No. Our Bemelerberg route is deliberately included for people who are on a gravel bike for the first time. On collection we ask about your experience and suggest a suitable route.

That depends on the season, check the current opening hours on our reservation page. Give us a call if in doubt.

Yes, that's what the bikes are for. Popular routes go through the Voer region and the Aachener Wald.

Up to 30 km we will come and exchange the bike free of charge. Above 30 km we charge € 1 per km.

Yes, free of charge. Just bring them along when you collect the bike.

Absolutely. The tyres are wider than on a road bike (47 mm on our Sensa Romagna) and handle the stony Limburg paths well. At the same time you're still fast on tarmac and better than on a mountain bike.
